Living in Kalbarri (population 1500 people) for the past 6 months has given Mali, Craig and I a real taste of ‘small-town’ life and what a privilege it has been for me. The opportunity to become friends with my neighbours has been rare in my life but I enjoy the sense of community it brings. This feeling has been magnified for me in this small town. If it weren’t for the consistent 40-45 degrees summer temperatures and howling summer winds we could potentially settle here. The landscape is so unique and diverse - sea cliffs & rugged beaches, river jetties and swimming spots, picnic sites and 4WD tracks up-river, swimming lagoons and seaside fishing towns to the south, Kalbarri National Park and the gorges.
Since starting my Meditation Circle at the local Yoga Studio in November I have shared some lovely practices with a group of beautiful locals. I have a consistent group of 3-4 who come each week and have benefited greatly from the classes. I also started some sunrise meditation classes at the caravan park during the school holidays. Apart from the flies and bugs it was a really nice way to start a Saturday morning.
I have also become a member of the local book club. We meet once a month to chat about the book we all read and enjoy a few drinks and cheese platters. Last month was up at the Meanarra Hill lookout, which was spectacular. I was silly enough to ride my bike up the hill, without a fly net, whilst everyone else passed by cheering me on. I arrived red faced and with a belly full of flies. I’ve always been skeptical about Book Clubs (as I was about knitting clubs), assuming it was for old ladies. But my opinion has been amended – I rather enjoy discussing the books I read as generally it is such a solo affair whereby I have no one to discuss my thoughts with….and it is a good excuse for a few glasses of champagne. Thanks ladies!! You are another reason I feel so welcome in Kalbarri.
Most recently I was asked to deliver some meditation classes for a Women’s Wellness Weekend. In my usual style, I decided to do even more and delivered two 2.5 hour Mindfulness Workshops as well as a Beeswax Wrap and sustainability Workshop. The workload in preparing for the event was unhealthy but it was worth it. The ladies really enjoyed themselves and the feedback from all workshops was positive.
Kalbarri really does offer so much. I feel as though I have been welcomed with open arms and have become part of the fabric of the community. Thanks Kalbarri and all the wonderful people living here that have made it such a wonderful 8 months.
Wow, Corrine. I am sure you are having a relaxing good time there. I am jealous~~~😘 Say hi to Mali and Craig from us
So glad the workshops went well Corrine. Can’t wait until you do your classes in the gong - if you ever return😀. Keep the post coming loving reading what you guys are up to. Say gday to Craig and Mali and tell her we still have her drawing on our caravan fridge. Love it.
